Project Updates

I wanted to let you know how some of my projects are going. I have completed the Temperature blanket through this week. It is coming along nicely and the color changes are getting interesting. I will include an up to date photo of it in today’s post. For those that are interested in the pattern I based this on here is the link Simple Chevron Blanket

I am also working on some other projects that I hope you will find interesting. They are a knitted zigzag blanket and some stick markers that can be used for both knitting and crochet projects.

The zigzag blanket was started last year. It is worked 10 stitches at a time. The zigzags are done by increasing, decreasing and joining as you go. I am using a verigated yarn by Red Heart. If I do this again I think it will be interesting to use a slow color change yarn or possibly change the colors with each row.  Here is the pattern Ten Stitch Zigzag

My last project is the stitch markers. I have been seeing people make and sell these and thought I would like to try making some. I did not follow any instructions or tutorials I just did trial and error to figure out how to do these. I had some polyamer clay, left from another project, so I decided to see what I could do. I used some cutouts and made some hearts from some small amounts of different colors that I blended together. Then I had to figure out how to connect them to the clasp. I found some eye pins that I stuck through the clay hearts then I attached the clasps and baked them in my toaster oven. While they were cooling I used a small cheap paint brush to apply a glaze to the baked clay. After the glaze dried, I clipped the end of the eye pins that were poking through and they were finished. I have since done several sets and will include a picture these in today’s post.

I hope you have a great day and happy crafting to everyone!

New Year New Project

I have not posted for almost 2 years. Sometimes Life keeps you so busily you just lose track of time. Then it becomes easier to not keep up. I have decided to start blogging again. I will be keeping up with different projects I am working on this year.

The first one is a crocheted temperature blanket. It will take all year to complete, because you only work one row a day. Each row represents the temperature for that day. I have decided to use both the low and the high temperatures so each row is worked half way with the low and the other half with the high. I made a chart using 5 degree intervals for the colors and have completed the first week and a half. The pattern I am using is the Simple Chevron Blanket. I made it wider to fit our queen size bed and it will be longer because there will be 365 rows. I am also thinking if adding a solid white row between each month. The yarn used for this project is I Love This Yarn from Hobby Lobby. The crochet hook is a size I 5.50 mm wooden hook.

Since this is an all year project, I will keep you updated on how it is going through out the year. I will also be posting other projects I am working on as I start and complete them.

Palm Trees and Treasure

A couple of Fridays ago my daughter, Mary, and I had a girls night out. We had dinner went shopping and saw a movie. Dinner was nice at Ihop and we enjoyed getting to have some quiet time just the two of us and no men. Then we went shopping at Ross and Sally Beauty Supply. I found nail polish on sale at both places. Sales are always good. I bought some L.A. Colors at Ross and some Orly at Sally. Today’s post is about two of the L.A. Colors polishes. We finished the night with Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters. Over all it was a very enjoyable and relaxing evening.

As I said, today I will be posting about two of the L.A. Color polishes. I used a solid and a matching glitter. I think I figured out the names of the two colors by going to the website and comparing the pictures. I do wish they would put the color names on the bottles. I don’t know about others, but I would be willing to pay a little more to know the names are right. The solid color is Palm Trees, and the glitter is Treasure Island. They were easy to use and have lasted a week and several days. The pictures were taken after a week of wear. I used L.A. Color top coat to finish the look.

Pink Glitter Tips

After Christmas, I hit the clearance sales and bought some of the polish gift sets at half price. I was playing around with some of these polishes to see what I could come up with the other day. I sent a picture to my daughter of what I did and she said that I had to blog it so here I am. We also had a break today from all the rain and sun came out so I took advantage and got my camera out and took pictures on the nails.
Today, I have a fun glamorous look for a very small price. I used two of the polishes that came in one of the sets to create this look. The polishes are from The Color Workshop by MarkWins International. I used a creamy pink for the nail color. It was easy to use and went on smooth and even. Then I carefully painted the tips with a matching pink glitter. It was easy to use and took just two coats to get the look I wanted. I used a topcoat by LA COLORS to finish it off. The pink by itself was a pretty color, but the glitter tips just gave it a touch of sparkle that set it apart.

Christmas Nails

Here it is Christmas Eve and I have time to post again. I am going to tell you about my Christmas nails. I got lots of complements on these two Christmas themed nails. Yes, I am going to post both Christmas nails in one post since tomorrow is Christmas. I have been having problems with my nails chipping and peeling, so I am using Kiss nails.
The first one is a polish by Julep from their December polishes called Scarlett. It is a shimmery red with a hint of a pink, and perfect as a Christmas polish. I used two coats of Scarlett by Julep. It was easy to use and lasted a whole week with minimum wear. The sun light picture looks more orange, but the shade picture shows the true red color.
For the second Christmas look I used two colors. The main color is Big Money Frost by New York Color. It is a shear frosted green that took three thin coats to get the color I wanted. Next I used Sugar Cookie by Pure Ice. Sugar Cookie is a glitter with both red and holo glitters. It took several coats to get it to look like this. It almost looks like the red glitter are tiny lights. I have received many complements from people wanting to know where I had them done. The pictures were taken after two days of work and wear.

Now for the pictures!!! Enjoy!
